After a decade of making Uncharted games starring Nathan Drake, Naughty Dog, the studio behind the game series – brings in a major change. The latest one in the series, Uncharted 4 was an epic adventure that rounded up Nathan Drake’s life story.
After a great ending to his adventures, his legacy continues with a familiar character – Chloe Frazer. Fans will remember her from Uncharted 2. Out of all of the game characters that appeared over the decade filled with great Uncharted sequels, Chloe captures the most attention among the fan community.
We suspect that this was the main reason that she is getting the major role in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The charismatic master thief brings some interesting changes to the way the story will unfold in the next game.
A familiar feel with a different perspective
The announcement trailer brought so much excitement when it was first shown. The first news appeared at the PlayStation Experience 2016 where both of the actresses playing the two main characters explained some details on what you can expect. Claudia Black as Chloe and Laura Bailey who is playing Nadine Ross – a formidable character who is introduced in The Lost Legacy.
The new character, Nadine, is an experienced tactician and she is a contrasting character when compared to Chloe. So far, we know that they will need each other’s help as they venture on their way through India. Their ultimate goal will be to recover the Tusk of Ganesh that was lost long ago.
Plenty of adventures await in the new game
For starters, the announcement trailer shows a city devastated by war. We follow Chloe who is moving through the streets that look ghastly empty. Chaos and panic soon reveal a situation that shows a war zone like situation. Soldiers patrol streets and check anyone who is moving at night.
Chloe is obviously heading towards a rendezvous point even with all the dangers lurking from everywhere around her. The trailer even shows a dramatic scene of a burning city being consumed by a raging war. At the end, we get a glimpse of Nadine Ross. Needless to say, the end of the trailer left us with the feeling of wanting to see more.
We are certainly excited for the upcoming Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. The studio behind the game series, Naughty Dog, promises a thrilling plot and a movie like feel to the whole experience. Over the years, we’ve set high expectations for each game in the series and they always delivered.
For Lost Legacy, they have something different in mind. This will be a standalone story in the Uncharted universe. They still promise all the traits that are familiar from the previous games so there is a lot to be excited about indeed.
The good news is that those who own the Uncharted 4 Digital Deluxe Edition or the Explorer’s pack will get The Lost Legacy in the form of a download on the launch date. The launch date is currently set for 22 August for the US and for Europe its 23 August. Buyers will have the option of choosing between digital and full retail release versions.
Those of you who pre-order PS4 version of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy from certain retailers will get a collection of remastered versions of the four Jak and Daxter games too.
As always, gamers who are tight on the budget can use PSN voucher to get their copies of the game. Just make sure to use vouchers for pre-order so that you can start playing as the Lost Legacy launches.
Uncharted fans already got Deluxe Editions of Uncharted 4 as soon as the announcement trailer hit the web. We imagine that Naughty dog has another hit to add to their impressive portfolio.
What to expect in the near future?
In a cover story featured for Game Informer, Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells stated that the studio isn’t planning on making Nathan Drake-free Uncharted sequels.
“I would say that Naughty Dog doing an Uncharted after this is unlikely. I would never say never, but we’ve got The Last of Us Part II on our plates and there’s so much other stuff that [we want to explore]. It’d be hard. If we magically had that two-team, three-team studio, sure – it’d be great to keep doing it. We really love the franchise, but the studio has limited resources and lots of other ideas. I’d say the likelihood is low.”
This might seem like bad news to fans, however, not all is lost (no pun intended). There is a lot to be excited about with The Last of Us Part Two being worked on. We just can not believe that Naughty Dog studios will leave their Uncharted franchise and never come back to work on it ever again.
On the other hand, maybe the studio plans to design a new form of adventures that someday might bring in new characters and timelines. Only time will tell that’s for sure.
Even with some sadness surrounding the fact that we might not ever get a new game where Nathan Drake is the main character – there is still a lot to look forward to in the future. For starters, The Lost Legacy will offer a fresh new perspective on the whole Uncharted universe.
The diverse India game setting offers some colourful and entirely exotic environments. This is the true spirit of Uncharted games that we all love about the Uncharted games. Also, Naughty Dog studio is working on The Last of Us Part Two so there is another reason to be excited about.
We are sure that the fans will enjoy The Lost Legacy and as with all of the previous games connect with the new characters and their stories. The exotic location will certainly add a great feel to the new exciting story plot. We are so excited and are looking forward to the summer release date.
