A lot of people have been asking me if there is any way to get PlayStation plus for free. And I spent a lot of time on this, trying to figure it out and I finally discovered. There is actually a way that you can get PlayStation plus for free on both the PS3 or PS4.
And it’s actually surprisingly easy to do. So you shouldn’t have any problem with it. I’m going to show you how to do it in this video. I am going to be demonstrating on the PlayStation 4 but I’ll also show you how to do it on a PlayStation 3.
What we are going to do is trick the PlayStation 4 into thinking that it’s a company console owned by Sony, which is going to provide it with free PlayStation plus. And this is actually surprisingly easy to do. Because I guess they never figured anyone would figure this out or try it.
Now to understand how this works, you need to know that Sony identifies consoles owned by the company using the address you provide in the PlayStation network account or on the console itself. So we are just going to change that address to the Sony headquarters. So that it’s going to think, it’s a company console and therefore gets the free PlayStation plus.
And the reason they do this is pretty obvious. They don’t want to have to pay for a subscription for every one of their consoles that they are going to be doing testing and such on.
So let’s go to the PS4 right now, and I’ll show you exactly what we have to do.
Alright so here we are at PlayStation 4 and as you can see, I made this brand new account. There is nothing on it, there is no subscription at the top. So I am going to show you how to get this to PlayStation plus for free. Now what you want to do is log into the account you want obviously. And then go to settings, and then PlayStation network management, and then hit account information.
And then we are just going to wait for it to go to the information page. Then you want to go down to change address. And that’s going to make you log in, so I’ll just do that now.
Alright so once you log in, you are going to get taken to this menu where you type in your address for your account, and we want to type in the Sony headquarters address. Which is going to be 800 Sony Avenue (Yes they have a street name named after them) and then Avenue? New York. And it’s New York City. And the postal code is 10022. Okay. And then confirm.
And that’s it. Now don’t worry about your country. If you are not in the United States, don’t change your country because I don’t think you can anyway, and you want to keep it in your region, or else you are going to have problems later. So just type in that address, but don’t change your country anywhere.
Now if you are on a PlayStation 3, then you have to actually log in to PSN, and change your address online. Because you can’t do it from a PlayStation 3 console. So you need to do it from your web browser, from the PlayStation website. And then after that, the rest of the process is the same.
So we just changed the address. It’s 1:49 now, I am going to wait a few hours, and it should register and propagate within a couple hours. And then I’ll come back and will see how it worked out.
Alright. So it’s almost 6’o clock right now. So that would be about 4 hours later. And let’s see. And yup, alright so we can see the PlayStation plus icon at the top now. So this account now has a free PlayStation Plus.
And that’s really all there is to it, that’s all we had to do.
And that’s it. Your PlayStation 3 or PlayStation 4 now has free PlayStation plus. I did this on a couple other accounts months ago, and they still have it. So I don’t know if this is a completely indefinite, permanent upgrade. But it should be able to last at least several months because that’s how it did for me.
And you probably want to do this soon, because I imagine Sony is going to disable this once they find out. But I don’t think they can retroactively remove it once you get that upgrade. So you probably want to do it soon.
And also I want to point out that when you get this upgrade, it’s going to carry over between consoles. So if you do this on a PlayStation 4, and log in with the same account on a PS3, you’ll still have the PlayStation plus. It’s tied to your account.
Now you are still going to have to pay for games. This only applies for the PlayStation plus subscription itself that you get for free. You are not going to be able to get all the games for free unfortunately but still it’s a great deal.
